One of the fears I have as a father is the thought that one day something unpleasant may happen to one of my kids and I can't be there to comfort them. Life is very different these days; there are bullies everywhere and mishaps just waiting to happen.
And yet, a part of me is assured that even if the world has become a very different place, there is still enough good that surrounds us.
While we cannot always be there when goodness fails to prevail over our children, there is a haven of comfort they can turn to in the memories we build for them: memories of travels and adventures together, memories of time spent laughing and bonding over the silliest and simplest of things that like threads, are woven into a fabric that lets them know they are loved beyond measure and without condition.
I believe that these are the thoughts that their minds can return to whenever their worlds are shaken. And like a safe hiding place, it will shield them and see them through until you can be there to hold them, wipe away their tears, and tell them that everything will soon be alright.
Let my arms be your refuge when storms come,
your fortress when the world breaks to pieces,
your sanctuary when you feel lonesome,
your hiding place where love never ceases.
